Location

Pénestin, Morbihan, Brittany, France. The commune is situated at the mouth of the Vilaine estuary and is part of the Cap Atlantique intercommunal grouping between the Loire and Vilaine rivers.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent for the periods 2004-2007 and 2005-2008, and as good for 2006-2009 and 2007-2010 under Directive 2006/7/CE. Under Directive 76/160/CEE, classifications ranged from 9A to 10A between 2007 and 2010. Bacteriological pollution episodes were recorded on 19/08/2009 and 22/07/2010, neither resulting in a bathing prohibition. Potential macroalgae proliferation and phytoplankton proliferation are noted as considerations.
