Loscolo is a bathing beach located in Pénestin, a coastal commune in Brittany at the mouth of the Vilaine estuary. Seawater bathing area at the outlet of the Vilaine estuary opening onto the Atlantic Ocean. The surrounding area contains five main watercourses: Étier de Pont-Mahé, Étier de Foy, Kermouraud streams, Le Lienne, and Haut Pénestin.

Location

Pénestin is located in the Morbihan department of Brittany, at the mouth of the Vilaine estuary in the Guérande-Atlantique peninsula region, approximately between the Loire and Vilaine rivers. The commune is part of the CAP Atlantique agglomeration community.

Water Quality

The bathing site was classified as 'Good' quality in 2013. Monitoring includes bacteriological water quality analysis, macro-algae proliferation potential, phytoplankton proliferation potential, and shellfish data. Multiple pollution sources were identified including stormwater discharge, domestic wastewater, agricultural activities, and industrial/craft activities.

Risks

Potential pollution sources include stormwater discharge, non-compliant domestic wastewater systems, agricultural runoff, horse access during the summer season, and dog access to the beach. Short-term pollution risks were identified requiring crisis management and active management protocols.
