Goulumer Beach is a bathing site located in Pénestin, Morbihan, Brittany, at the mouth of the Vilaine estuary. The beach is open for swimming from June 20 to September 15 and receives average daily attendance during the bathing season. Water quality has been monitored since 2008, with classifications of B (average quality) in 2008 and 2009, and A (good quality) in 2010 under the 76/160/CEE Directive.

Water Quality

Type 1 bathing profile indicating pollution risk is not established. Under Directive 76/160/CEE: 2008 classification B (average quality), 2009 classification B (average quality), 2010 classification A (good quality). Two pollution episodes recorded: August 4, 2009 (bacteriological) and August 19, 2009 (bacteriological), neither resulting in bathing prohibition. No Directive 2006/7/CE classifications yet available; first simulated classification effective in 2012 for period 2008–2011.

Risks

Non-compliant wastewater treatment systems located 120 m from the bathing zone (medium impact). Malfunctioning pumping station overflow located 60 m from the bathing zone (medium impact) with alert thresholds for high water levels.
