Plage du Maresclé is a bathing beach located in Pénestin, a commune in Brittany at the mouth of the Vilaine estuary. The site is managed by the Mayor of Pénestin and is officially open from June 20 to September 15. Water quality has been classified as excellent over recent monitoring periods (2004–2010) under EU Directive 2006/7/CE, though quality has shown slight instability. The beach experiences average daily attendance during the bathing season and is subject to regular monitoring by health authorities.

Coastal bathing water at the interface of the Vilaine estuary and the Atlantic Ocean. The site is subject to oceanic and meteorological influences.

Location

Pénestin is located in the Morbihan department of Brittany, at the mouth of the Vilaine estuary. The commune is part of the Cap Atlantique intercommunal authority, situated between the Loire and Vilaine rivers.

Season

June 20 to September 15.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent under EU Directive 2006/7/CE for periods 2004–2007, 2005–2008, 2006–2009, and 2007–2010. Under the previous Directive 76/160/CEE: 2007 (9A – good quality), 2008 (9B – average quality), 2009 (10A – good quality), 2010 (10A – good quality). Quality is described as excellent but slightly unstable. Three pollution episodes of bacteriological origin were recorded (August 1, 2000; July 1, 2003; August 18, 2005), none resulting in bathing prohibition. Non-conforming sanitation systems are identified as a potential pollution source at a distance of 100 m from the bathing zone with medium impact on water quality.
