Italy Lake 1 - Excellent

Lido Parco is a public bathing beach located in the municipal park of Cannobio on Lake Maggiore. The beach features pebbles and a gentle slope toward the shoreline, with a length of 159 metres. The beach is classified as ECCELLENTE (excellent) based on water quality monitoring from 2020–2023. Water sports including windsurfing, kitesurfing, sailing, and diving are permitted, and facilities include showers, restrooms, a picnic area, and recreational infrastructure for sports and dining.

Water

Lake Maggiore. The bathing area covers 0.159 km². The beach is situated on the right orographic bank of the Torrente Cannobino stream, which flows into Lake Maggiore approximately 100 metres north of the monitoring point. Altitude: 214 metres above sea level.

Facilities

Showers, restrooms, picnic area. Sports facilities including football pitch, two beach volleyball courts. Additional facilities within 200 metres: tennis court, mini-golf, football field with athletic track. Dining facility present. Animals are not permitted on the beach.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: ECCELLENTE (Excellent). Classification based on 18 routine samples from 2020–2023. Escherichia coli: 90th percentile 52.6 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile 86.4 MPN/100 ml. Enterococchi: 90th percentile 70.9 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile 115.2 MPN/100 ml. The bathing area falls within the homogeneous zone Maggiore 2, classified as having high pressure levels across all three pressure indicators. A wastewater treatment plant is located approximately 500 metres upstream from the sampling zone.

Risks

The bathing water could be affected by flooding of the Torrente Cannobino stream, which may introduce pollutants into the lake. Boats may release mineral oils and fuel. Heavy rainfall can trigger overflow systems and accidental failures of lifting equipment, introducing untreated sewage into the lake. Inadequate management of the sewer network is a possible pollution source.
