Havnebadet is a 30-meter-long beach located in the vibrant area of Struer Harbour. The beach offers a variety of activities and amenities for visitors of all ages, along with excellent accessibility. The water is saltwater from Limfjorden with depths of 2–3 metres. The bathing water was newly designated in 2019, so classification based on indicator bacteria monitoring will be available from 2020 onwards.

Water

Saltwater from Limfjorden. Water depth is 2–3 metres at Havnebadet. Current direction is variable. The designated beach area is 30 metres long.

Location

Struer Harbour, Struer, Denmark. The beach is situated in a lively area with numerous activity options, dining facilities, and easy access. Responsible authority: Struer Kommune, Østergade 11-15, 7600 Struer.

Season

Routine water quality sampling occurs during the bathing season. Water quality classification is revised annually in May.

Water Quality

The bathing water was newly designated in 2019, so no classification could be calculated at that time. Monitoring for indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci) occurs routinely during the bathing season. Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms is low. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) accumulation is low. Risk of chemical pollution such as oil spills is very low.

Risks

Three storm water discharge pipes near Havnebadet carry risk of releasing high concentrations of faecal bacteria during heavy rainfall. Struer Kommune advises against bathing in front of these discharge pipes. Glass shards and litter can occur at the beach. Short-term pollution sources from sewage system overflows do not exist. Algal blooms can occur, particularly during prolonged warm periods with nutrient-rich water, potentially causing headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhoea from contact with high toxin concentrations.
