Lohals Strand is a 400-metre-long sandy beach located on the west coast of Langeland, north of the harbour town of Lohals. The beach consists of fine sand with scattered small stones and is situated in a picturesque landscape with forest areas and green spaces. The beach is centrally positioned near Lohals and offers numerous facilities for visitors.

Water

Brackish water in Langelandssundet. Water depth is less than 2 metres up to 200 metres from the shore. The seabed is sand. Current direction is variable but primarily from the north.

Location

Lohals Strand is located on Langeland's west coast in Denmark, north of Lohals and Lohals Camping. Access to the beach is via Nordstrandsvej, which leads to parking areas with associated toilet facilities.

Facilities

Parking areas, toilet facilities, warning signs for degraded water quality, trash bins, lifeguard equipment (rescue rings), emergency telephone, and blue flag designation.

Season

1 June to 1 September.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Excellent. Classification is based on routine monitoring for E. coli and enterococci indicator bacteria during the bathing season. The beach meets the required values for water quality and the classification is revised annually before the start of the bathing season.

Risks

Risk of temporary contamination from three pump station overflows during heavy rainfall, depending on current direction: one 350 metres south near Lohals Harbour, one northeast of Lohals Treatment Plant 1.45 km south, and one east of the beach. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) wash-up at the water's edge. Risk of glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills. Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms is low. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low.
