Stoense Havn

Stoense Havn is a 1,400-meter-long beach on the west coast of Langeland, Denmark, facing Langelandssundet. The beach consists primarily of fine sand and is 10 meters wide, with the seabed consisting of fine sand and scattered small stones. The water is classified as brackish. The beach is situated in a scenic natural area with large green spaces along the shoreline.

Water

Brackish water body in Langelandssundet. Water depth increases gradually offshore, with depths under 2 meters extending approximately 250 meters from the shore. Current direction is variable but primarily from the north.

Location

Stoense Havn is located on the west coast of Langeland at the Stoense summer house area. Access is via Stoense Havnvej, which leads to a parking area south of the summer house area. Toilet facilities are available at the parking area.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Excellent, meeting required standards. Classification is based on routine monitoring for indicator bacteria E. coli and enterococci conducted during the bathing season (1 June to 1 September). Classification is recalculated annually in May.

Risks

A small drainage ditch discharges mid-beach with risk of high fecal bacteria concentrations during rainfall from runoff of animal feces and manure. Lohals Wastewater Treatment Plant, located 550 meters north, discharges treated effluent via pipeline 200 meters into the sound; under normal conditions it has low impact, but emergency overflow during heavy rainfall may pose risk. Low risk of cyanobacteria blooms. Low risk of phytoplankton blooms. Risk of seaweed (macroalgae) washing ashore at the water's edge. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occur. Sudden contamination from accidents involving pleasure boats, manure tanks, and sewage lines is possible.
