Lyngs Drag

Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Lyngs Drag is a 700-meter-long beach composed of small and medium-sized stones, located along Nissum Bredning fjord near a rest area off the main road. The beach is 10–40 meters wide and features stone breakwaters perpendicular to the shore. A large nature reserve with rich birdlife is located north of the beach, and a summer house area lies 400 meters to the northeast.

Water

Limfjorden classified as saltwater. Water depth increases gradually offshore, reaching less than 2 meters at 100 meters from the coast. Current direction is variable, primarily from the west.

Location

Located at Nissum Bredning near a rest area (Hovedvejen). Parking available at the rest area adjacent to the beach. Nearest town is Struer, Denmark.

Season

Routine water quality monitoring conducted during the bathing season. Classification reviewed annually in May before the bathing season begins.

Water Quality

Water classified as Excellent quality based on monitoring samples from 2011–2014. Classification meets required standards. Monitoring for indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci) is conducted routinely during the bathing season. No fecal pollution sources identified in the area.

Risks

Low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms. Low risk of phytoplankton blooms. Low risk of large seaweed (macroalgae) accumulation in the water edge. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occur. Sudden pollution from boat accidents, manure tanks, and sewage lines is possible.
