Serup Strand

Serup Strand is a 700-meter-long beach in the Limfjorden, located approximately 700 meters south of the settlement of Serup in Struer Municipality, Denmark. The beach is composed primarily of sand with small to medium-sized stones, and the fjord bottom consists of medium-sized stones. The beach is 20 meters wide and situated in peaceful natural surroundings. Water depth increases gradually, remaining below 2 meters for 130 meters from the shore.

Limfjorden (Vigen). Saltwaterbody with variable current direction, primarily from the west. Water depth under 2 meters extends 130 meters from the shoreline. The fjord bottom is covered with medium-sized stones.

Location

Serup Strand is located south of the settlement Serup in Struer Municipality. The beach is accessible via a side road to Lavbjergvej. The beach is marked by a blue line on reference maps and is 700 meters long.

Water Quality

Classified as Excellent quality based on routine monitoring of fecal indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci) conducted regularly during the bathing season. Classification is calculated from control samples taken from 2011-2014 and is revised annually before the bathing season begins. No sources of fecal contamination affecting the beach have been identified in the surrounding area.

Risks

Low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms. Low risk of phytoplankton blooms. Low risk of large seaweed (macroalgae) accumulation in the water. Sudden contamination is possible from incidents involving pleasure boats, manure tanks, and sewage lines. Glass fragments, waste, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occur. Algal blooms can cause headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhoea in exposed individuals, particularly children and immunocompromised people.
