Vigen Ved Oddesund

Vigen ved Oddesund is a bathing beach located on Odby Bay, part of Limfjorden. The beach is 350 metres long and 10 metres wide, composed of fine sand without stones or shells. It is situated in isolation alongside a large natural area that stretches along the main road, providing an idyllic setting. The fjord bottom in front of the beach consists of fine sand with scattered small stones.

Water

Limfjorden classified as saltwater. Water depth increases gradually, remaining under 2 metres for 180 metres from the shore. Current direction is variable but primarily from the west.

Location

The beach is reached via a side road off the main road leading to a car park where a dry toilet and rescue ring are available. The beach is in Struer Municipality, Denmark.

Season

Routine monitoring takes place during the bathing season. Classification is reviewed annually in May before the season starts.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Excellent. Classification is based on routine monitoring during the bathing season for two faecal indicator bacteria: E. coli and enterococci. The classification was calculated from samples taken regularly during 2011–2014 and is revised annually before the bathing season starts.

Risks

A stream discharges north of the beach and may periodically contain high concentrations of faecal bacteria; swimming in the stream outlet is not recommended. Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms is low. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low. Risk of large amounts of macroalgae washing ashore is low. Glass, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occur. Sudden contamination from boat accidents, slurry tanks, and sewer lines is possible.
