Rebæk Strand

Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Rebæk Strand is a child-friendly beach located just west of Rebæk, surrounded by open fields and green forests with views over the fjord. The beach consists of fine white sand interrupted by cross-wise stone breakwaters, with a sandy seabed containing few stones. A bathing pier is installed during summer months. The beach is 250 metres long.

Water

Kolding Fjord. Brackish water classification. Water depth increases gradually but relatively quickly from the shore, reaching under 2 metres at approximately 100 metres from the coast. Current direction is variable. Water depth varies with tidal conditions.

Location

Address: Stranden 64, 6000 Kolding, Denmark. Located west of Rebæk. Good parking facilities are available close to the beach. Beach number G535.

Facilities

Bathing pier (summer), toilet facilities, parking, trash bins, free primitive campsite.

Season

Bathing season. Routine monitoring and classification revision occur annually in May.

Water Quality

Classified as Excellent quality in 2020 based on routine water samples collected during the bathing season from 2016-2019. Samples are analysed for indicator bacteria E. coli and enterococci. Classification is revised annually before the bathing season begins. Under normal circumstances, water quality is very good with no health risk. Quality may be affected during heavy rainfall due to several combined sewer overflows located near the beach.

Risks

Risk of short-term fecal pollution from combined sewer overflows during heavy rainfall. Low risk of harmful cyanobacteria blooms, though possible. Low risk of phytoplankton blooms, though possible. Risk of seaweed (macroalgae) wash-up in the water's edge. Glass shards and litter may occur. Sudden contamination possible from incidents involving pleasure boats, manure tanks, or sewer lines.
