Water

Saltwater beach in the South Funen Archipelago (Det Sydfynske Øhav). Beach width: 1–7 meters of fine sand with occasional small stones. Beach length: 70 meters. Water depth: less than 2 meters for 40–50 meters from shore, then increases rapidly. Seabed consists of sand with occasional stones and seaweed. Tidal range is minimal (under 0.5 meters). Current direction is variable depending on wind conditions, primarily from northeast and southwest.

Location

Located in Svendborg, Denmark at Færgevej 21, 5700 Svendborg. The beach extends from the marina at Otto Ruds Vej approximately 70 meters northeast. Parking is available nearby, with a few spaces directly by the beach. A kiosk and restaurant are located behind the beach, and toilet facilities with coin payment are provided.

Parking available. Toilet facilities with coin payment. Kiosk and restaurant. Bus service. Mobile phone coverage. Benches and waste bins on the rear part of the beach. Rescue ring installed for emergencies. Boat dock present (swimming prohibited from dock due to risk of collision with sailing vessels). No lifeguard service. No blue flag designation.

Season

Official monitoring season: 1 June – 15 September. Beach is open year-round.

Water Quality

Bathing water is classified as Excellent quality based on control samples from the last four years. Routine sampling occurs during the bathing season (1 June – 15 September) and tests for E. coli and Enterococci bacteria. Classification is revised annually before the bathing season begins. Risks

Strong currents and high waves in Svendborg Sund a few meters from the boat dock, exacerbated by frequent ferry traffic. Water depth increases rapidly after 40 meters. Risk of short-term fecal contamination from sewage overflow structures during heavy rain periods. The area has combined sewers. Risk of washed-up macroalgae (seaweed) at the waterline; bathing near large accumulations is not recommended due to potential toxin production in decomposing seaweed and disease-causing bacteria. Low risk of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) and phytoplankton blooms based on monitoring, but blooms can occur suddenly during warm periods with high nutrient levels. Glass shards, debris, and chemical contamination (including oil spills) can occur. Sudden contamination from boat accidents, manure tanks, or sewage pipes is possible.
