Øreodden

Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Øreodden is a small sandy beach located in Svendborg, Denmark, between houses and private bathing piers on Svendborg Sound near Sankt Jørgens Park and the Svendborg Sound Bridge. The beach is approximately 24 metres long with fine sand, a bathing pier, and good changing facilities in beach houses. The seabed consists of clean sand without seaweed.

Water

Saltwater in the South Funen Archipelago (Det Sydfynske Øhav). Water depth is less than 2 metres for approximately 150 metres from shore. Tidal range is minimal, under 0.5 metres. Current direction varies with wind conditions, primarily from the southwest.

Location

Øreodden 10, 5700 Svendborg, Denmark. Nearest town is Svendborg. Parking available for a few cars directly at the beach.

Facilities

Bathing pier, parking, mobile phone coverage, beach house changing facilities. No toilet, kiosk, restaurant, or Blue Flag.

Season

1 June to 15 September. Annual classification review occurs before the bathing season starts.

Water Quality

Bathing water classified as Excellent quality based on control samples from the last four years. Routine samples are collected during the bathing season (1 June to 15 September) and analysed for E. coli and Enterococcus bacteria. The beach is included in the Bathing Water Forecast app, which warns of risk of short-term faecal pollution from wastewater treatment plant overflows.

Risks

Risk of short-term faecal pollution from two overflow structures to Svendborg Sound approximately 200 metres away during heavy rainfall, though dilution in the sound reduces risk to the beach. Risk of cyanobacteria and phytoplankton blooms assessed as low but can occur during warm periods with high nutrient levels. Risk of washed-up macroalgae (seaweed) at the waterline. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occur.
