Vindebyøre

Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Vindebyøre is a sandy beach on the northern tip of Tåsinge, overlooking Svendborg Sund. The beach is approximately 1.5 km long with fine sand and soft sandy seabed. The shoreline is narrow and bordered by grassy parkland to the west and a high cliff to the east. The water is classified as salt water with small tidal variation of less than 0.5 m.

Water

Salt water body in Svendborg Sund. Water depth less than 2 m for a distance of 70–200 m from shore. Current direction varies with wind conditions, primarily from east and west. Tidal variation less than 0.5 m.

Location

Located at Vindebyørevej 31, 5700 Svendborg, Denmark. Parking available at the end of the road and in the forest car park. Ferry connections available nearby. The beach is adjacent to Svendborg Sund Camping.

Facilities

Parking, toilets, kiosk and restaurant, mobile coverage, lifeguard equipment (rescue ring), boat jetty, nearby camping with facilities including restaurant and playground.

Season

Monitoring conducted 1 June–15 September. This is the official bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Excellent. Classification based on monitoring data from the last four years. Routine samples taken during the bathing season (1 June–15 September) are analysed for E. coli and Enterococci bacteria. Classification is reviewed annually before the bathing season starts.

Risks

Strong current in Svendborg Sund, particularly beyond two-thirds of the boat jetty. Swimming prohibited from the boat jetty due to collision risk with sailing vessels. Kobberbæk creek, 1.4 km west, may cause brief minor fecal pollution but is heavily diluted before reaching the shore. Risk of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) and phytoplankton blooms is low but possible during warm periods with high nutrient levels. Macroalgae (seaweed) may wash up at the water's edge. Glass fragments, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occur.
