Hasle South is a beach located immediately south of Hasle between Hasle and Nyker Rev on the island of Bornholm, Denmark. The profile covers approximately 3.2 km of shoreline. Most of the beach consists of good sandy areas, though some sections have narrower and rockier conditions. Water depth increases gradually from the shore to the 2 m depth contour at approximately 100 m from land. The Bagge Å stream terminates at the beach.

Water

Coastal seawater with stable salinity between 7 and 8 ‰. Water depth increases gradually to 2 m at approximately 100 m from shore. Sandstone formations are present in places causing abrupt depth changes, which can create unpredictable current conditions in strong onshore wind. Current direction and speed depend on wind conditions, with generally low current speeds except during strong wind.

Location

South of Hasle between Hasle and Nyker Rev at Sorthat. Access to the southern part of the beach is available from Nyker Strandvej via Havvej, and additional access points exist via Levkavej, Glasværksvej, and Klympen. Public parking and toilet facilities are available at all access points.

Facilities

Public parking and toilets at all access points. Four rescue stations distributed along the beach with rescue numbers R 032, R 034, R 036, and R 038.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as 'excellent' based on data from 2016–2019. Many years of bathing water data from municipal monitoring stations show good water quality. All nearby urban settlements are connected to wastewater systems with treatment at Rønne treatment plant. No sources of potential pollution near the beach.

Risks

Unpredictable currents may occur in areas with sandstone formations and banks during strong onshore wind; swimming in strong onshore wind is not recommended. Blue-green algae blooms (Nodularia spumigena, Aphanizomenon flos-aqua) occur naturally each year in the surrounding Baltic Sea around Bornholm, typically in warm periods during July–August, particularly in sunny, calm conditions. Algae can accumulate in gel-like masses along exposed coasts. Algae can produce toxins; small children and dogs should not bathe where large quantities of algae are present. Seaweed and other macroalgae can periodically wash onto the beach causing seaweed smell.
