Hasle Syd is a beach located immediately south of Hasle on the island of Bornholm, Denmark, stretching approximately 3.2 km between Hasle and Nyker Rev. Most of the beach is sandy, though some sections contain narrower and rockier areas. Water depth increases gradually from the shore to 2 metres approximately 100 metres from land, though sandstone formations create steep depth changes in places that can cause unpredictable currents during strong onshore winds.

Water

Coastal Baltic Sea beach. Approximately 3.2 km stretch. Water depth increases gradually to 2 metres approximately 100 metres from shore. Salinity is stable at 7–8 ‰. Sandstone formations with steep depth changes present along sections. Bagge Å river discharges onto the beach. Current speed and direction depend on wind, generally small except during strong winds.

Location

South of Hasle between Hasle and Nyker Rev at Sorthat. Access is available from Nyker Strandvej via Havvej to the southern section, and from Nyker Strandvej/Fælledvej via Levkavej, Glasværksvej, and Klympen. Public parking and toilet facilities are available at all access points.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as 'excellent' based on 2016–2019 monitoring data. Long-term data from municipal control stations show consistently good water quality. All nearby urban settlements have wastewater treatment systems; treated wastewater is processed at Rønne Treatment Plant. No pollution sources identified near the beach.

Risks

Cyanobacteria (Nodularia spumigena, Aphanizomenon flos-aquae) blooms occur naturally in the Baltic Sea around Bornholm annually during warm season (July–August), particularly in calm, sunny conditions. Algae can accumulate in gelatinous masses along exposed coasts. Toxin production possible; ingestion should be avoided. Small children and dogs should not bathe in areas with heavy algal concentrations. No documented cases of illness from algae reported by the municipality. Strong onshore winds can create unpredictable currents at sandstone formations. Tangles of seaweed and macroalgae may drift ashore causing odour.
