Nørrekås Strand is a sandy beach located immediately north of Nørrekås Harbour in Rønne. The profiled section covers approximately 250 metres. Water depth increases rapidly from the beach towards the harbour entrance, which lies directly offshore and reaches approximately 2 metres depth. Bottom conditions are variable and depend on wind and current. A bathing bridge is present on the beach.

Water

Sandy beach with stable salinity between 7 and 8 ‰. Water depth increases rapidly from the beach to the harbour entrance at approximately 2 metres. Bottom conditions are variable depending on wind and current. Current speed and direction depend on wind, with generally small current velocities except during strong winds.

Location

Immediately north of Nørrekås Harbour in Rønne. Access is available from Nordre Kystvej and from Nørrekås Harbour. Multiple parking options are available in harbour areas and along roads in the vicinity.

Facilities

Rescue post with rescue number R 010. Public toilet on the opposite side of the harbour basins. Kiosk and grill bar at the same location.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on data from 2016–2019. Long-term bathing water data from the municipal control station shows good water quality at Nørrekås Strand. The nearest potential pollution source is an emergency overflow from Rønne's sewage system that discharges into the harbour entrance opposite the beach, estimated to occur approximately twice annually during heavy rain events.

Risks

Blue-green algae blooms (Nodularia spumigena, Aphanizomenon flos-aqua and others) occur annually in the Baltic Sea around Bornholm, typically in warm months (July–August) and especially during sunny, calm periods. Algae can form toxic substances; care should be taken to avoid ingesting them. Small children and dogs should avoid bathing where algae concentrations are high. No cases of illness from algae are known to the municipality. Seaweed and other macroalgae may periodically drift onto the beach, causing seaweed odour.
