Montenegro is a coastal bathing water located along a high, rocky shoreline between Cala di Montenegro and Punta Vagno in the Cinque Terre area. The site is part of the Cinque Terre Marine Protected Area. The water body is classified as coastal waters with mountainous terrain and low stability. The bathing area has been rated as excellent quality during the 2008–2011 monitoring period.

Coastal waters of the Ligurian Sea with a high, rocky coastline. Bathing area extends 1.536 units. The site is part of the Cinque Terre Marine Protected Area and is located within the Serra Valley watershed basin.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008–2011). No coastal treatment plants, purification systems, or Imhoff tanks are present in the area. The Ligurian Sea is not characterised by cyanobacterial blooms due to oligotrophic conditions. No cases of potentially toxic algal strains have been recorded.

Risks

River mouth identified as a pollution impact source. Short-duration pollution events are being assessed through a modelling approach in development. No proliferation of potentially toxic algal species has been documented.
