Harpøt Havn is a small public beach located at a leisure boat harbor on Nissum Fjord in Denmark. The beach consists of fine sand without stones and measures 10 meters wide by 40 meters long. The area is surrounded by natural landscapes and a small forest area to the north and east. The beach is suitable for families with children due to gently sloping water depth.

Water

Nissum Fjord is a saltwater body. The fjord bottom in front of the beach consists of fine sand. Average water depth is 1 meter, with depths of 2–3 meters in the fjord's center and southern sections. Current direction is variable, primarily from northwest and west.

Location

Harpøt Havn is located on Nissum Fjord near Lemvig Kommune in Denmark. The beach is adjacent to Harpøt Havn leisure boat harbor, which has capacity for 42 boats. The area is publicly accessible.

Season

Routine water quality monitoring occurs during the bathing season. Water classification is reviewed annually in May before the bathing season begins.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Excellent. The 2023 classification was based on routine control samples taken during 2020–2023, analyzed for E. coli and Enterococcus bacteria. The classification meets water quality standards. The beach classification is reviewed annually before the bathing season begins.

Risks

Harpøt Bæk stream immediately south of the beach can contain high concentrations of fecal bacteria during rainfall and may cause short-term contamination lasting up to 72 hours. Two larger streams 1.5 km north and 2 km south (Damhus Å) pose a potential risk during rainfall due to low water exchange in the fjord. Drain outlets from fields along the fjord shore can contain high bacterial concentrations during rainfall. Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms is low. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low. Low risk of large seaweed accumulation in the water's edge. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occasionally occur.
