Bjerghuse Strand is a 600-meter-long North Sea beach with fine sand, dunes, and deep water. The beach is a Blue Flag beach located near Holstebro in Denmark. It is well-visited by tourists during summer and popular for walking in autumn and winter. The beach is approximately 60 meters wide and features playground facilities.

Water

Saltwater body (North Sea). Water depth increases steeply offshore and is highly variable due to tidal and weather conditions. Seabed consists of fine sand with few stones. Current direction is variable but primarily from the north.

Location

The beach is accessed via Bjerghusevej near Bjerghuse in Holstebro Municipality. Parking and toilet facilities, including handicap toilets, are available near the beach entrance. Access to the beach is via sand paths.

Facilities

Lifeguard post with emergency telephone and first aid kit, Blue Flag designation, toilets, disabled access facilities, parking, playground, waste bins, warning signs for degraded water quality.

Season

Routine water quality monitoring occurs during the bathing season. Classification is revised annually in May.

Water Quality

Bathing water classified as Excellent quality. Classification is based on monitoring of indicator bacteria E. coli and enterococci from 2008–2011. Water quality has consistently been of the highest standard with no identified faecal sources affecting bathing water quality.

Risks

Rip currents (revlehuller) are common and dangerous; swimmers caught in outgoing currents should not fight but allow themselves to drift a few metres before swimming to the side. Very low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms. Very low risk of phytoplankton blooms. Low risk of large quantities of seaweed washing ashore. Sudden contamination from accidents is considered extremely unlikely but possible.
