Nordmarken Strand is a 150-metre-long beach located west of Jyllinge in the northern part of Roskilde Municipality on Roskilde Fjord. The beach extends from a green area down to the water's edge, with grass and marram grass in the upper section and numerous large stones along the shore. A small sandy area with gravel and smaller stones is present at the water's edge. A bathing bridge is installed during the bathing season. The beach is backed by a residential area to the east and features benches offering views over Roskilde Fjord.

Water

Brackish water in Roskilde Fjord. Water depth increases gradually, reaching less than 2 metres up to 200 metres from the shore. The fjord bottom consists primarily of sand with small stones scattered across it. Current direction is variable, primarily from the southeast.

Location

West of Jyllinge in northern Roskilde Municipality, Denmark, on Roskilde Fjord. Access is via footpaths from Strandtoften. A waste bin is located at the path leading to the beach.

Facilities

1 June to 1 September. Water quality monitoring is conducted routinely during this period.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Excellent based on routine monitoring during the bathing season from 2016 to 2019. Classification is based on measurements of fecal indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci). The beach meets required water quality standards. Classification is reviewed annually before the start of each bathing season.

Risks

A storm water drainage outlet is located north of the beach, which poses a risk of high fecal bacterial concentrations during heavy rainfall. Swimming is advised against at the outlet location. Low risk of harmful cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms. Low risk of phytoplankton blooms. Low risk of large quantities of macroalgae (seaweed) washing ashore. Very low risk of chemical pollution such as oil spills. Glass fragments and litter may occasionally occur. Sudden pollution can occur from incidents involving pleasure boats, slurry tanks, or sewage lines. Extreme rainfall situations pose a small risk of sewage overflow into the storm water drainage system.
