Onsevig

Onsevig is a small bathing area located on a pier at a modest pleasure boat harbour near the village of Onsevig on the northwestern side of Lolland. The bathing area is defined as 50 metres around a bathing bridge that provides easy access to the water. The seabed consists of fine sand, and water depth in the bathing area is under 2 metres. The surrounding landscape features agricultural land and offers views of green countryside.

Water

Brackish water (brakvand) in the Langelandsbæltet strait. Water depth under 2 metres in the bathing area. Current direction is variable with no dominant flow direction. Water level rises gradually away from the shore.

Location

Onsevig is a small village approximately 13 kilometres north of Nakskov on the northwestern side of Lolland. Access is via Byskovvej, which leads to a parking area at the harbour. Good facilities including toilets and benches are available at the harbour.

Toilets with drinking water, benches, parking area, rubbish bins, lifeguard ring, and bathing bridge.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2022: Excellent (Udmærket). Classification is based on routine water samples tested for E. coli and enterococci bacteria collected regularly during the bathing seasons 2018–2021. Classification is reviewed annually before the bathing season starts.

Risks

Low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) and phytoplankton blooms. Risk of sudden pollution from incidents such as spills from pleasure boats, slurry tanks, or sewage lines. Glass shards and litter may occur around the pier. Very low risk of chemical pollution such as oil spills.
