Jarlens Grund is a public bathing beach located at Lokalteatret in Espergærde, measuring approximately 80 metres in length and 25 metres in width. The beach has a sand bottom with water reaching 2 metres depth about 50 metres from the shore. Water quality is classified as excellent based on measurements from the four most recent seasons. The bathing area experiences a dominant current direction from south to north and is subject to occasional cyanobacteria blooms under specific conditions of calm, warm weather.

Water

Brackish water (1–2% salinity). Sand bottom. Water depth approximately 2 metres at 50 metres from the shore. Dominant current direction from south to north.

Gammel Strandvej 217 B, 3060 Espergærde, at Lokalteatret. Parking available at Lokalteatret. Bus 388 serves the area via Ny Strandvej.

Facilities

Bathing jetty with tables and benches. Drinking water tap. Disabled toilet available May 1 to September 15. Toilet facilities. Waste bins. Campfire area. Life-saving equipment available. No lifeguard on duty. Parking at Lokalteatret.

Season

Monitoring conducted year-round with 10 samples collected in 2024. Disabled toilet access and leashed dogs permitted April 1 to September 30.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Based on 10 samples collected in 2024 (Station 307). Results reflect measurements from the four most recent seasons.

Risks

Cyanobacteria blooms may occur in rare cases under specific current directions and after several days of calm, warm weather. Macroalgae and phytoplankton blooms possible. Sewage overflow risk during heavy rain, with potential water contamination lasting up to 2 days following such events.
