Espergærde Strand is a sandy beach located just south of Espergærde Harbour, approximately 180 metres long and 70 metres wide. The beach has a sand bottom and reaches a depth of 2 metres approximately 40–100 metres from the shore. Water quality is classified as Excellent based on measurements from the four most recent seasons. The beach is situated in brackish water with a salinity of 1.8–2%.

Location

Just south of Espergærde Harbour near Espergærde. Limited parking available at Espergærde Harbour. Accessible by the Kystbanen coastal railway to Espergærde Station and by Bus 388.

Facilities

Lifeguards present 22 June to 4 August, 10:00–18:00. Bathing jetty (Espergærdebro). Disabled access including car park, toilet, paved access to jetty, two platforms along the paved access, and a bathing wheelchair available from lifeguards. Waste sorting facilities. Information on public transport. Litter bins. Fire pit (bålplads).

Season

Official lifeguard supervision from 22 June to 4 August, 10:00–18:00. Monitoring takes place year-round with 20 samples collected in 2024.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (based on results from the four most recent seasons). Station 305 with 20 samples taken in 2024. Treated wastewater is discharged approximately 600 metres north of the area by Sydkystens Renseanlæg treatment plant and may only reach the beach under particularly adverse wind and current conditions, causing temporary water contamination for up to 2 days following such events.

Risks

Blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) blooms may occur rarely under specific current directions and after several days of calm, warm weather. Macroalgae and phytoplankton blooms occur rarely. No risk of rip currents. No strong currents in shallow water.
