Ore Camping

Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Ore Camping Strand is a 140-metre-long beach with fine sand and scattered small to medium-sized stones, located south of Ore along Storstrømmen, the waterway between South Zealand and Lolland-Falster. The beach is 10 metres wide and the seabed consists of fine sand. Water depth increases gradually offshore, making it suitable for children. The beach is bordered by a broad green area that creates an attractive seaside setting.

Water

Storstrømmen, a brackish water body. Water depth under 2 metres extends 120 metres from the shore. Current direction is variable, primarily from the west.

Location

Ore, south of the town, along Storstrømmen. Parking is available at Ore Camping via Orevej road.

Facilities

Toilet facilities, information signage, waste bins, parking, disabled access, first aid kit, emergency telephone, life buoy, blue flag, warning system for reduced water quality.

1 June to 1 September

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Good. Classified as meeting required standards based on routine sampling for E. coli and enterococci bacteria during 2007-2010. Classification is revised annually before the bathing season begins.

Risks

Stream outlet (Græshavegrøften) east of the beach may contain high concentrations of faecal bacteria; bathing is not recommended in the outlet area. Four combined sewer overflow structures can cause temporary contamination lasting up to 72 hours during heavy rainfall. Wastewater treatment plant discharge 1 km east has low impact. Low risk of cyanobacteria and phytoplankton blooms. Low risk of chemical pollution. Macroalgae (kelp) washing ashore is possible. Glass shards and litter may occasionally occur.
