Skaverup Strand

Skaverup Strand is a 200-meter-long sandy beach located on the west coast of Vordingborg Municipality along Avnø Fjord. The beach is 5–10 meters wide and consists of sand with scattered small and medium-sized stones, with stone breakwaters constructed perpendicular to the shore. Water depth increases gradually offshore, making it suitable for children. The beach is situated in a peaceful setting with views of Knudshoved and Knudshoved Odde.

Water

Brackish water in Avnø Fjord. Water depth under 2 meters extends approximately 650 meters from the shore. Current direction is variable with no primary flow direction. The seabed is primarily covered with small and medium-sized stones.

Location

The beach is centrally located at the village of Skaverup on the west coast of Vordingborg Municipality. Access is via Skaverupvej, which leads to a parking area. A large green area near the beach provides amenities.

Facilities

Parking area available. Warning signage for water quality alerts. Trash bins. Monitoring checkpoint.

Water Quality

The bathing water is classified as Good quality and meets regulatory standards. Classification is based on regular water samples analysed for E. coli and enterococci bacteria taken during the bathing season from June 1 to September 1. Vordingborg Municipality conducts routine monitoring during this period.

Risks

Three stream systems with outlets near the beach can contain high concentrations of fecal bacteria during periods of heavy rainfall, particularly due to overflow structures that may release sewage. Bathing is discouraged near these stream outlets. Low risk of blue-green algae and phytoplankton blooms. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) accumulation at the water's edge. Glass shards and litter may occur. Very low risk of chemical pollution such as oil spills. Sudden pollution can occur from incidents involving pleasure boats, manure tanks, and sewage pipes.
