Tankefuld Strand is a narrow rocky beach located below Tankefuld Forest in the South Funen Archipelago. The beach stretches 450 metres with a stony structure and very limited width of 0–2 metres. The seabed consists of sand with occasional small stones, mussel banks, and seaweed. Water depths reach less than 2 metres within 40–50 metres from shore. The beach is backed by forest terrain that rises toward villa districts and agricultural land.

Water

Saltwater body in the South Funen Archipelago with water depth less than 2 metres within 40–50 metres from shore. Tidal range is less than 0.5 metres. Current direction varies with wind conditions, primarily from the southwest and northeast.

Location

The beach is situated at Tankefuldvej 3, 5700 Svendborg, Denmark. Parking is available. Bus access is available. The eastern and western ends of the beach are largely inaccessible due to private houses, gardens, and boat docks.

Parking available. Bus access available. Mobile coverage present across the beach. Boat dock on the beach. No bathing bridge. No toilets. No kiosk or restaurant. No blue flag designation. No bathing water viewing platform.

Water Quality

The bathing water is classified as Excellent quality based on monitoring data from the past four years. Routine water samples are analysed for E. coli and Enterococcus bacteria during the bathing season (1 June–15 September). The classification is reviewed annually before the bathing season begins.

Risks

Low risk of harmful algal blooms and phytoplankton blooms under normal conditions, though sudden blooms can occur during prolonged warm periods with high nutrient levels. Accumulation of macroalgae (seaweed) at the water's edge poses a risk; bathing and children's play near large quantities of washed-up seaweed is not recommended due to potential toxin formation in decaying algae and disease-causing bacteria. Swimming from the boat dock is prohibited due to collision risk with sailing vessels. Glass shards, litter, and chemical contamination including oil spills may occur. Overflow structures and other outlets to Svendborg Sound are potential sources of faecal contamination during heavy rainfall, though water is heavily diluted before reaching the beach, resulting in very low risk. Sudden contamination from leisure boat accidents, slurry tanks, or sewage pipes is possible.
