Øresund Lokeshøj

Strand ved Lokeshøj is a bathing beach located below Lokeshøj near Vedbæk in the Øresund water body. The beach is 375 meters long with a 20-meter width and features sand with occasional small stones. It offers views across the Øresund strait and is classified as excellent water quality based on 2020–2023 data.

Water

Saltwater body in Øresund. The seabed consists of sand with small stones, and bed conditions change seasonally due to sandbar migration and storm activity. Water is shallow near the shore with coastal depths affected by wind and currents. Coastal currents are generally weak and flow in the direction of the wind.

Location

Located below Lokeshøj at Vedbæk, accessed via Strandvej opposite Enrumvej. A small parking area is available at the corner of Strandvej and Enrumvej with access from Enrumvej. No toilets or other facilities are present at the beach.

Season

Official monitoring occurs during the bathing season with at least 6 water samples taken in 2024. Rudersdal Municipality monitors algae growth during the bathing season and posts warning signs if health risks are identified.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on data from 2020–2023. Fecal pollution risk exists from two discharge points: outlet UJ18000 approximately 150 meters north of the beach (functions as an overflow from a pumping station during heavy rainfall) and rainwater outlet UJ19000 approximately 600 meters south. Heavy rainfall can cause water contamination lasting a maximum of 3 days.

Risks

Blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) can occur, producing toxins that cause headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhea in high concentrations; children and immunocompromised individuals are particularly vulnerable. Algal blooms are rare at Øresund. Seaweed (macroalgae) is present on the beach. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occasionally occur.
