The water is shallow near the shore, with sandy and stony seabed conditions that change seasonally due to wind, currents, and storms.

Water

Saltwater body (Øresund strait). The beach is 200 meters long and 40 meters wide. Water is shallow near the shore. The seabed consists of sand and stones, with conditions that change seasonally due to wind, currents, and storms. Coastal currents are generally weak and follow wind direction. Water depth is influenced by wind and currents.

Location

The beach is situated immediately north of Vedbæk Harbour in Rudersdal Municipality. Parking spaces, public toilets, cafés, and restaurants are available at the nearby harbour. The beach can be accessed via Vedbæk Strandvej.

Public toilets, bathing pier (year-round), grassed area with scattered trees and shrubs, training pavilion. Nearby amenities include parking spaces, cafés, and restaurants at the harbour.

Season

Monitoring occurs during the bathing season. In 2024, bathing water samples are taken at least 6 times during the season.

Water Quality

The bathing water is classified as 'Excellent' based on data from 2020–2023. Water quality is assessed according to the EU Bathing Water Directive classification system. Two wastewater discharge outlets are present: outlet J14-UDL approximately 300 meters from the shore discharges treated wastewater from Vedbæk Treatment Plant, and treated stormwater during heavy rainfall; outlet J09-UDL located immediately north of the beach discharges road runoff from Vedbæk Strandvej and partly treated wastewater during heavy rainfall. Contamination from these outlets typically lasts a maximum of 3 days after heavy rainfall.

Risks

Blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) can produce toxic substances causing headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhea upon contact. Children and immunocompromised individuals are particularly vulnerable. Animals can die if drinking water with high algal concentrations. Algal blooms can cause foaming and discoloration. Blue-green algae blooms occur rarely at Øresund. Seaweed (macroalgae) risk is present on the beach. Glass shards, waste, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occasionally occur.
