Skodsborg Strand is a narrow sandy beach on the Øresund strait with a length of 300 metres and width of 25 metres. The beach features grassed areas behind it and is located at the site of the former Skodsborg Søbad. The seabed consists of sand with stones, and shallow water is present near the shore. The water has been classified as excellent quality based on data from 2020–2023.

Water

Øresund strait. The beach is 300 metres long and 25 metres wide. The seabed is sand with stones, with shallow water near the shore. Coastal depth conditions are affected by wind and current. Salinity is saltwater. Coastal currents are generally weak, moving in the direction of the wind.

Location

Skodsborg Strand is located in Rudersdal Municipality, Denmark, accessed via Høje Skodsborgvej and Skodsborg Strandvej. Skodsborg Strandpark lies opposite the former Skodsborg Søbad. Public toilets and a kiosk are available at the beach.

Facilities

Handicap-accessible all-year bathing jetty, small rest area with benches, kiosk, public toilets.

Season

Bathing season monitoring period. Cyanobacterial blooms are monitored during the bathing season, and warning signs are posted if health risks are identified.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on 2020–2023 data. Rudersdal Municipality monitors water quality during the bathing season with at least 6 samples taken in 2024. Two wastewater outlets exist near the beach: rainwater outlet UJ31000 and overflow UJ22000 from a pumping station. Both outlets discharge to the Øresund during heavy rain and can cause short-term pollution lasting typically a maximum of 3 days after heavy precipitation. The municipality is connected to DHI's bathing water forecast system.

Risks

Rainwater discharge and pumping station overflow can cause short-term faecal pollution during heavy rain. Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) can produce toxic substances causing headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhoea; children and immunocompromised individuals are particularly vulnerable. Cyanobacterial blooms are rare at Øresund. Seaweed (macroalgae) may be present on the beach. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occasionally occur.
