Orphani is a natural sandy beach with pebbles in certain areas, located in the Larnaca region of Cyprus. The beach is long with varying width and is backed by holiday home complexes and some undeveloped land and agricultural fields. Natural vegetation of low shrubs is found near the shoreline, with tree plantings in residential areas. The beach has a maximum daily visitor capacity of 1200 swimmers.

Coastal water body named Larnaca West (CY_19-C2). Beach length is 1640 meters. Average water depth is 0.6 meters with maximum depth of 2 meters. Natural sandy shoreline with pebbles.

Location

Larnaca District, Meneou Community. The monitoring point is located where the shore is wide and easily accessible, representative of where the main volume of swimmers congregates under normal conditions.

Facilities

No public facilities are available for visitor services. No waste collection bins on the beach. No lifeguards, toilets, showers, or disabled access facilities mentioned. No marine sports activities occur at this location.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data since Cyprus's EU accession in 2004. The coastal body to which this beach belongs is in good ecological status. Low risk of eutrophication from macroalgae and phytoplankton.

Risks

Low risk of short-term pollution. Possible sources include malfunctioning sewage systems from holiday home complexes, passing vessels, and a marine aquaculture research station at Meneou. The area is within a groundwater zone vulnerable to nitrate pollution. Possible pollution sources from agricultural runoff and infiltration, and from septic tanks of holiday homes and settlements without sewage networks.
