Ortello

Italy Lake 1 - Excellent

Ortello is a sandy and gravel beach located in Orta San Giulio on Lake Orta in the Piedmont region. The beach is approximately 30 metres wide and is freely accessible to the public. The bathing water has been classified as Excellent based on routine monitoring samples from 2020-2023. Water quality is characterized by low anthropogenic pressure and minimal human impact.

Orta San Giulio, Novara Province, Piedmont Region. The competent authority is the Municipality of Orta San Giulio, via Bossi 11, tel. 0322/90133.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent. Based on 18 routine samples from 2020-2023. Escherichia coli 90th percentile: 43.9 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile: 73.9 MPN/100 ml. Enterococchi 90th percentile: 50.6 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile: 81.3 MPN/100 ml. The wastewater treatment plant is located approximately 10 km north of the monitoring point. Pressures classified as Low with minimal anthropogenic impact and underdeveloped sewage network.

Risks

Intense precipitation can trigger overflow structures and accidental failures of lifting systems, resulting in untreated wastewater discharge into the lake. Possible pollution source: inadequate management of the sewage network. No cyanobacterial proliferation risk identified. No macroalgae, phytoplankton, or species proliferation has been evidenced.
