Yderby lyng Strandvejen is a bathing beach located in the western part of Sjællands Odde in Denmark, classified as excellent water quality. The beach features a fine sand strand approximately 150 metres long and 12 metres wide. The water is brackish, a mixture of salt and fresh water, with variable current directions generally oriented northwest to northeast.

Water

Brackish water (mixture of salt and fresh water) with approximately 10 metres to 0.5 metres depth at the sampling point and 40 metres to 2 metres depth measured from nautical charts. Variable current direction, typically northwest to northeast.

Location

Located in the western part of Sjællands Odde. Access via Strandvejen, with a parking area at the end of the road. The beach is situated in a nature-protected area with summer houses in the background.

Facilities

Parking area, waste bins, lifeguard station, and benches provided by the property owners association. Information signs on the beach about water quality classification and bathing water description.

Water Quality

Classified as excellent water quality based on data from 2017-2021. Two minor exceedances recorded: one in 2018 and one in 2019. Source of pollution unknown. Concentrations were relatively low with expected duration in summer of 1-3 days depending on weather, current and wind conditions.

Risks

Low risk of cyanobacteria and phytoplankton growth. Medium risk of macroalgae growth. Swimming is not recommended if water is unclear and feet cannot be seen when water reaches knee level. Children should not play or bathe near washed-up algae due to potential toxins and bacteria survival.
