Italy Lake 1 - Excellent

Pascolo is a public access bathing beach on Lake Orta in the Piedmont region of northern Italy. The beach has a pebbled surface and is preceded by a grassy area. It is classified as Excellent water quality based on routine monitoring from 2020 to 2023. Water activities including aquatic sports are permitted at this location.

Location

San Maurizio d'Opaglio, Province of Novara, Piedmont region. The beach extends 0.052 km and is situated at an altitude of 295 metres above sea level.

Water Quality

Classified as Excellent. Monitoring data from 18 routine samples over 2020–2023: Escherichia coli 90th percentile 58.1 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile 99.1 MPN/100 ml; Enterococci 90th percentile 25.6 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile 41.0 MPN/100 ml. The bathing area is characterised by medium-low pressure classification with sewer class III and building class II. Some scattered dwellings in the vicinity may not be connected to the sewer network.

Risks

Intense precipitation may trigger overflow structures and accidental failures of lift installations, bringing untreated effluent into the lake. Inadequate management of the sewer network is a possible pollution source. Some scattered dwellings not connected to the sewer network could compromise water quality.
