Italy Lake 1 - Excellent

Lido di Gozzano is a pebble beach on Lake Orta in Piedmont, Italy. The beach spans 75 metres and is freely accessible to the public. The bathing water is classified as Excellent based on routine sampling from 2020–2023. Water quality monitoring shows low levels of both Escherichia coli and enterococci.

Location

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (based on 18 routine samples from 2020–2023). Escherichia coli: 90th percentile 41.7 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile 72.8 MPN/100 ml. Enterococcci: 90th percentile 43.6 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile 77.1 MPN/100 ml. Classified as Low Pressure zone with minimal anthropogenic impact and limited sewage network development.

Risks

Intense rainfall may trigger overflow structures. Accidental failures of pumping systems can cause discharge of untreated sewage into the lake. Inadequate management of the sewage network is identified as a potential pollution source. No cyanobacterial events have been recorded in the past four years. No macroalgae, phytoplankton, or other proliferation events have occurred in the past four years.
