Pellestrina - Case matte is a bathing water area located along the southern coastline of Pellestrina island, which separates the southern portion of the Venice Lagoon from the Adriatic Sea. The beach extends for 25 to 50 metres in width. The water area covers 1.767 km². The bathing water has been classified as excellent for the period 2021-2024.

Location

Pellestrina island, Venice municipality, Veneto region. The monitoring station is positioned approximately 2–5 km from the northern dam of Chioggia port mouth. The beach orientation runs north-south.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: excellent (2021-2024). Enterococcus intestinalis 95th percentile: 10 CFU/100 ml; 90th percentile: 10 CFU/100 ml. Escherichia coli 95th percentile: 13 CFU/100 ml; 90th percentile: 12.34 CFU/100 ml. The Venice-Lido wastewater treatment plant (60,000 equivalent inhabitants design capacity) discharges directly to sea approximately 4 km from the coast. No river mouth pollution sources identified.
