Plage du Bœuf is a semi-open bathing beach located in La Seyne-sur-Mer, situated between Baie du Lazaret and the small harbour of Toulon. The beach measures 60 metres in length and is framed by Pointe de l'Aiguillette to the north and Pointe le Bœuf to the south. It consists of several unsupervised swimming zones separated by small dykes. The beach is currently closed to the public due to risk of rockfall.

Water

Semi-open sea water body with a surface area of approximately 60 metres in length. Catchment basin area of 0.2 km². Water renewal is correct due to the semi-open configuration.

Location

La Seyne-sur-Mer, between Baie du Lazaret and the small harbour of Toulon, framed by Pointe de l'Aiguillette to the north and Pointe le Bœuf to the south. Located along the Corniche de Tamaris.

Season

15 May to 30 September

Water Quality

Water quality classification: EXCELLENT (2023 monitoring results). Vulnerability index: LOW. No nitrogen or phosphorus inputs confirmed. No history of algal blooms. Bacteriological analysis conducted every two weeks at the ARS sampling point.

Risks

Potential pollution source: wastewater treatment plant (STEP) discharge at Cap Sicié with surface discharge of 50,000 m³ per day. Potential impacts occur during south-westerly winds (Mistral). Risk of short-term pollution lasting no more than 72 hours from rainwater runoff via drainage collectors or malfunction of sewage networks. Beach is closed to the public due to risk of rockfall.
