Plage du Cros is a 500-metre sandy beach in the commune of Six-Fours, located on the western coast. The beach is semi-enclosed, bordered to the north by the Cros headland and to the south by a rock barrier. It experiences high visitor numbers and has low to moderate water renewal due to its semi-enclosed configuration. The beach hosts a rescue post and restaurant facility.

Semi-enclosed sandy beach, 500 metres long, oriented westward. Entirely composed of sand. Watershed area: 1 km². Water renewal: low to medium.

Location

Commune of Six-Fours, accessible via road RD 616. Parking area available near the beach.

Facilities

Rescue post, restaurant, shower, numerous stormwater outfalls.

Season

15 June to 15 September.

Water Quality

Vulnerability index classified as MEDIUM. DDASS monitoring conducted between 2001 and 2008 showed variable results: water quality rated as good in five instances, and average in 2002, 2003, and 2008. Low risk of cyanobacteria, macroalgae, or phytoplankton proliferation. Nitrogen and phosphorus inputs not confirmed. No history of algal blooms.

Risks

Potential bacterial pollution from stormwater runoff (assessed as low risk in dry conditions, increasing with ++impact during rainfall). Possible sewage water rejection in dry conditions from the Cros stream and port of Brusc (assessed as low risk). Overflow risk from pumping stations due to network malfunction with sewage discharge onto roads. Pollution duration expected to be short-term, not affecting water quality beyond 72 hours.
