Almanarre Nord is a sandy beach with small gravel located in Hyères, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of southern France. The beach is 1.3 kilometres long and 20 to 40 metres wide, with a very gentle slope on the emerged portion and a steep slope on the submerged portion. It faces west and has an open configuration. The beach experiences high visitor numbers and is managed as a beach concession by the Métropole.

Water

Open seawater body. Drainage basin area: 1.1 km². Wastewater treatment plant (STEP) emissary located 1500 metres offshore, submerged at 10 to 20 metres depth.

Location

Hyères, Var department, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, southern France. Coordinates: N 43°04'42.5" - E 6°07'31.7". Accessible directly by road. One PMR access mat extends to the beach but not into the sea. A parking lot is available.

Facilities

Rescue post with 2 lifeguards. Four shower outlets accessible to disabled persons. Two toilets, one with disabled access (PMR). Drinking water point. Waste bins and selective sorting. Parking. Restaurant. No animal access permitted. Disabled access mat to beach but no water entry equipment for disabled persons.

Season

Annual monitoring period: 1 July to 31 August. Daily monitoring: 10:00 to 19:00.

Water Quality

Microbiological classification: Excellent (2022 ARS result). No microbiological pollution recorded in 2019. Preventive closures occurred in 2020, 2021, and 2022 due to adverse weather conditions; a closure in July 2021 resulted from poor ARS results (390 intestinal enterococci) with origin unidentified. No chemical pollution recorded in 2019–2022. No biological pollution recorded in 2019–2022. Visual monitoring of water condition is conducted during ARS and self-monitoring sampling.

Risks

Wastewater treatment plant located less than 1 kilometre away with potential for treated or untreated wastewater discharge depending on currents. Forced pressure relief stations and sewerage network capable of overflow during pump failure, power cut, or heavy rainfall events, with potential discharge into a surrounding canal. Risk assessment indicates an evaluation based on multiple pollution sources and hydrological factors.
