Plage des Pesquiers - Bona is a sandy beach in Hyères, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of southern France. The beach is 600 metres long and 30 metres wide, oriented towards the east with an open configuration. It experiences high visitor numbers and is used primarily for swimming. The beach is managed as a concession by the local metropolitan authority, with the mayor of Hyères holding responsibility for bathing water quality.

Open coastal water body with a watershed basin of 0.4 square kilometres.

Location

Hyères, Var department, South Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, France. Access is via Avenue de la Méditerranée. Coordinates: N 43°04'29.2" - E 6°09'14.2". No parking is available at the site.

Facilities

Lifeguard station with 2 rescue personnel. Disabled access and equipment for water access. Four shower outlets accessible to people with mobility limitations. Two toilets, including one for people with mobility limitations. Potable water point. Electronic waste bins. Restaurants available. No animals permitted. No parking.

Season

Monitoring occurs annually from 1 July to 31 August, with daily monitoring from 10:00 to 19:00.

Water Quality

Water quality was classified as Excellent in 2022 according to Directive 2006/7/CE. No microbiological pollution was recorded in 2019 or 2021. In 2020 and 2022, preventive closures occurred due to adverse weather conditions, but testing returned to normal without contamination. No chemical pollution was recorded in 2020, and no further incidents were documented in other years. No biological pollution was recorded in 2020.

Risks

Port of Hyères poses a medium risk of contaminated water discharge during dry conditions and high risk during rainfall, including black water and runoff from the port. Pesquier pumping station presents a low risk of wastewater overflow during both dry and wet conditions. Port of Capte poses a low risk during both conditions via discharge from the Canal de Ceinture.
