Playa El Puertillo is a 307-meter long coastal beach in Bañaderos, Arucas, Gran Canaria with golden fine sand substrate. The beach is exposed to moderate wave action with water depths ranging from 0 to -2 meters and a tidal range of 1-3 meters. The water body is a natural shallow coastal type located in the northwestern coastal area of Gran Canaria.

Coastal water body, 307 meters long and 42 meters wide. Depth range 0 to -2 meters. Moderate wave exposure with moderate wave regime. Fine golden sand substrate. Tidal range 1-3 meters.

Location

Located in Bañaderos, municipality of Arucas, Las Palmas province, Gran Canaria, Spain. The beach has good pedestrian and vehicle access, a maritime promenade, regular disabled access, and regular parking facilities.

Water Quality

Water quality classification based on four-year evaluation of faecal contamination indicators (Escherichia coli and intestinal Enterococci) according to RD1341/2007. The coastal water mass ES70GCTI1 (Northwestern Coastal) maintains good ecological status (biological and physicochemical) with an overall good or better state.

Risks

Five potential pollution sources: submarine outfall from wastewater treatment plant (EDAR), Bañaderos EDAR, Fuentes de Quintanilla desalination plant (EDAM), Arucas-Moya EDAM, and sewage network. Barranco de los Palmitos watercourse. Possible contamination episodes from stormwater discharge due to heavy rainfall and urban wastewater (untreated or treated). Occasional episodes of the cyanobacterium Trichodesmium documented in 2004, 2010, and more intensely in 2017. No previous recorded contamination episodes. No risk from jellyfish, sea urchins, or macroalgae.
