Playa Los Charcos is a coastal bathing beach located in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands, Spain. The beach is 450 meters long and 20 meters wide with white sand substrate. It is exposed to moderate wave conditions with tidal ranges of 1–3 meters. The beach offers surf and nautical rental activities.

Location

Located in Costa Teguise, municipality of Teguise, Lanzarote, Canary Islands. Pedestrian access is easy. Vehicle access is available. Parking available with fewer than 50 spaces. A seafront promenade is present.

Water Quality

Water quality classification based on four-year evaluation of faecal contamination indicators Escherichia coli and Enterococos intestinales, according to RD1341/2007. Microbiological contamination episodes occurred on 4–7 March 2013 due to persistent rainfall and on 21–26 January 2019. The coastal water mass is in good ecological status. Identified pollution sources include five tourist establishments (EDAM Sands Beach Resort, EDAM HD Beach Resort, EDAM Gran Meliá Salinas, EDAM Aptos. Los Zocos, and EBAR Playa de las Cucharas).

Risks

Microbiological contamination from runoff generated by heavy rainfall. Urban wastewater discharge from pipe breaks, sewage network failures, emergency overflows, or unauthorised discharges. Brine discharge from desalination facilities. Episodic cyanobacteria proliferation (Trichodesmium) recorded in 2004, 2010, and more intensely in 2017. No risk from jellyfish, sea urchins, or macroalgae.
