Las Calas de Santiago Bernabéu are urban beaches located in Santa Pola, Alicante, with an irregular closed configuration. The beaches feature perpendicular breakwaters as defensive structures and a rigid maritime promenade. They are bounded to the north by Playa del Varador and to the south by Playa de Levante.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified and monitored weekly during the bathing season. Monitoring point at Calle Ecuador. No direct discharge points affect beach water quality. The wastewater treatment plant EDAR Santa Pola serves 44,394 inhabitants with a design flow of 24,000 m³/day and treatment level of tertiary plus ultraviolet.

Risks

Potential contamination factors from rainfall, urban sanitation, and coastal discharge identified as low frequency with mild impact. No direct sewer connections affect the beach. Fitoplankton and macroalgae are monitored through surveillance networks.
