Playa del Varador is a beach located in Santa Pola, Alicante, in the Valencian Community. The beach has a closed longitudinal configuration with perpendicular breakwaters and a rigid maritime promenade. It features an artificial sand composition and is classified as a low-accumulation coastline. The beach extends 446.5 metres along the high-water line with an average width of 54.2 metres.

Water

Coastal marine water body belonging to the Júcar Hydrographic District. Classified as a coastal water mass (typology 6) with a micromareal tide range. Current direction flows from south to north. The water body has moderate ecological status.

Location

Santa Pola, Alicante, Valencian Community, Spain. The beach is bounded to the north by Calas del Este and to the south by Calas de Santiago Bernabéu. Parking is available. Access is provided for people with disabilities.

Lifeguards (salvamento y socorrismo). Free public toilets. Foot showers and foot-washing facilities. Beach bars/chiringuitos. Umbrella, roller skate, and lounger rental. Kiosk. Waste bins including selective waste collection. Buoys for marking. Accessible parking. No Accessible Service Point.

1 June to 15 September.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored weekly during the bathing season. The water body is managed under Royal Decree 1341/2007, transposing Directive 2006/7/CE. Short-duration pollution risk factors (E. coli and intestinal enterococci) occur with low frequency and mild impact. A single sampling point (Centro playa) is located at coordinates 715845, 4229637 (UTM, ETRS89, zone 30).

Risks

Rare sporadic discharges from Barranco Este (East Stream) classified as low-risk mixed-origin outflow with irregular width. Low-frequency potential risks from urban sewerage (low impact), coastal discharges (low impact), rivers/canals (low impact), industrial installations (low impact), port installations (low impact), and diffuse pollution (low impact). No cyanobacteria proliferation has been detected in the Valencian Community coastal waters.
