El Candado is a natural Mediterranean coastal bathing beach located in Málaga, Andalucía, measuring 135 metres in length with an average width of 30 metres. The beach has dark sand composition and moderately exposed conditions with dominant easterly and east-southeast wave patterns. Bathing conditions feature moderate swell, and the beach experiences high occupancy with semi-urban development.

Mediterranean coastal water body influenced by Atlantic waters. Shallow waters with mud and sand substrate. Microtidal range of 0–2 metres. Dominant current flows northeast. Annual precipitation 600–800 mm with torrent risk index 25–50%.

Surveillance equipment present. Waste bins and cleaning service available. Signage in place. No Red Cross station, no lifeguard team, no toilets, no showers, no disabled access, no mooring zone, no beach promenade, no boardwalks, no underwater diving zone.

Water Quality

Classified as Excellent for bathing seasons 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016. Short-duration microbiological contamination risk is low. Point source pollution from Peñón del Cuervo WWTP (MA050), an urban treated discharge facility. Diffuse pollution sources include land use alterations and built surfaces in the surrounding area.

Medium risk from jellyfish. Low risk from phytoplankton blooms. Low risk from macroalgae proliferation.
