Chanquete Beach is a natural Mediterranean coastal bathing area located in Málaga, Spain. The beach extends 610 metres in length with an average width of 25 metres and features dark sand composition. It experiences moderate wave conditions with a micromareal tidal range and is moderately exposed to waves dominated by easterly winds. The beach is highly occupied, urbanized, and equipped with a promenade and walkways.

Water

Mediterranean coastal water. The water body is classified as shallow water (aguas someras) with mud and sand substrate. Tidal range is micromareal (0-2 metres). Current regime is dominant towards the northeast. Annual precipitation in the area is 600-800 millimetres with a torrentiality index of 25-50 percent.

Location

Málaga municipality in Andalucía, Spain. Access is available on foot or by vehicle. Disabled access is provided.

Red Cross post, rescue equipment, surveillance equipment, toilets absent, showers present, waste bins, cleaning service, danger signalling, signage available, nautical rental services available, nautical club available at nearby El Candado marina.

Water Quality

Water quality classification was excellent for all monitoring seasons from 2013 to 2016. Short-term contamination risk is low and of microbiological nature (24-hour duration). The identified point source is the Peñon del Cuervo wastewater treatment plant (MA050) serving urban areas. Diffuse pollution sources include land use in the influence zone and constructed or altered surfaces. The Galicia Stream is a river course in the area.

Short-term microbiological contamination risk is low. Risk from jellyfish proliferation is low. Risk from phytoplankton proliferation is low. Risk from macroalgae proliferation is low.
