Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008–2011). No coastal sewage treatment plants, sea outfalls, or Imhoff tanks are present in the area. No particular measures or specific monitoring are currently activated.

Risks

A modelling approach for characterizing short-duration pollution events and anomalous situations is under development. The Ligurian Sea is not characterized by cyanobacterial blooms due to predominantly oligotrophic conditions. No cases of potentially toxic algal strains have been recorded.
