Water

Artificial lake with a surface area of 5.57 hectares. Average depth is 1.60 metres with maximum depth of 3.00 metres. The lake has a kiesig (gravelly) geology and schlickig (silty) substrate. Water renewal occurs through inflow and groundwater circulation with a water exchange time exceeding 30 days. The water body is ungeschichtet (unstratified).

Location

The lake is located in Espelkamp, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The responsible health authority is Kreis Minden-Lübbecke, Gesundheitsamt, Portastr. 13, 32432 Minden.

Water Quality

The bathing water has been classified as 'ausgezeichnet' (excellent) for the years 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. Mean water temperature is 20.89 degrees Celsius, pH value is 8.08, conductivity is 457.3 µS/cm, and transparency averages 1.82 metres. No relevant pollution sources have been identified. Hauskläranlagen (domestic treatment systems) and stormwater from separate sewer systems are present but have no relevant impact on water quality.

Risks

Occasional increased occurrence of ducks and swans was observed in previous years but has since subsided with no further impacts. Cyanobacteria were detected in 2 samples first identified in the 2008 season, but the risk of future mass developments is assessed as low. Cercaria (duck flea causing swimmer's dermatitis) was not detected in the last investigation in the 2008 season. Macro algae and phytoplankton have not been detected, with no risk of future mass development.
