Denmark Lake 1 - Excellent

Sjørup Sø is a deep lake in Vesthimmerlands Municipality in Denmark, with a maximum depth of approximately 14 metres. The bathing area is located at Himmerland Golf & Spa Resort. The lake is surrounded by fields, meadows, and bog areas, with the western shore owned by the resort. Shallow waters contain abundant vegetation with pike, perch, eel, and freshwater mussels, while deeper waters have muddy bottoms. There is no traditional beach; grass and other plants grow down to the water's edge at most locations.

Deep freshwater lake with maximum depth of approximately 14 metres. Shallow areas are heavily vegetated; deeper areas have muddy bottoms. There is virtually no current in the lake.

Location

Sjørup Sø is located in central Vesthimmerlands Municipality, immediately south of Gatten. The bathing beach is at Himmerland Golf & Spa Resort. Hornum town, with shops, lies 3 kilometres south of the lake.

Water Quality

Classified as good bathing water. No known sources of faecal pollution. No normal pollution problems. Bathing water quality meets transitional arrangements requirements for good bathing water. Pollution from swimmers is considered insignificant for water quality.

Risks

No knowledge of recent cyanobacteria blooms. Very low risk of phytoplankton growth. No risk of macroalgae. Signs of cyanobacteria bloom include unclear or discoloured water, foam formation, and possible dead animals. Information about cyanobacteria blooms or risks would be posted at the car park.
